What you see is our Team Ila Jean shirt design that Ila came up with on her own. I asked her what she wanted and immediately she said a heart with a gold ribbon on it. It was obvious that she chose the ribbon knowing that the gold ribbon represents kids cancer. While working on the design, I asked why the heart? She told me her her heart is full of tiny little gold ribbons. I asked her why...what were they doing in her heart? She said they are there to help fight her cancer!! My hero, my inspiration...my baby girl.
Thank you to our Team Ila Jean members for rising up to the challenge and joining us in the fight!! Please take the time to visit our team members pages and please donate to sponsor them. They are all such wonderful people who are here to do their part to find a cure!!
Ila Jean is a brave little girl who has been battling stage IV Neuroblastoma most of her life. She was diagnosed at just 18 months old in August 2006. Originally she was treated at Albany Medical Center and then at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Ila has endured years of treatments and is now battling her second relapse with progression of her disease as she starts a new trial at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland. Our courageous little fighter has had 27 rounds of chemotherapy in all, 28 doses of radiation to her right hip, 14 doses to her abdomen, 14 doses to her head, another 14 doses to her abdomen and just finished 5 doses of radiation to her left chest. She has had 8 rounds of 3f8 antibody therapy and 3 rounds of Rituxan. The number of infections, transfusions and scans this small body has endured is unreal in the last 5 1/2 years. She has had 5 central lines and 2 mediports as well as 3 PICC lines along with many many bone marrow biopsies and multiple surgeries. Yet, she is still full of life and has a spirit that will not be squashed. She attending preschool at St. Anthony's and then at Fulton and now is in 1st grade at CPIMS in Schenectady when she can. She is full of spunk and attitude and LOVES LIFE!!
We have answered the call to be heroes! We've teamed up to have our heads shaved – to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.
Please support us with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.
Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when we ask for your support, we're really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
