Team Teddy was started in honor of Teddy Gerber, a third grader at Osborn Hill School who was suddenly diagnosed with undifferentiated sarcoma in November 2009. One of the most joyful experiences during Teddy's illness was the 2010 St. Baldrick's event at OHS -- he was the guest of honor and kicked off the evening by shaving his brother John's head, and as the evening wore on, he felt comfortable enough to take off his hooded sweatshirt because he wasn't the only bald person at OHS anymore.
Less than 6 months after that night, Teddy passed away, and now Team Teddy continues the fight in his memory. Teddy's cancer was so rare that standard chemotherapy drugs did nothing to help him, and caused him great pain and unhappiness. The more money Team Teddy -- and St. Baldrick's -- raises, hopefully the faster a cure for cancer will be discovered.
