St. Baldrick’s Foundation Names Peter G. Mayberry as Senior Manager of Legislative Affairs

WASHINGTON (October 23, 2013) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven and donor-centered charity dedicated to funding childhood cancer research, today announced Peter G. Mayberry as its first-ever senior manager of legislative affairs, based in Washington, D.C. In this new role, Mayberry will collaborate with St. Baldrick’s leadership, staff and volunteers to implement the Foundation’s advocacy plan. He will also work with members of Congress, federal agencies and other advocacy organizations to further childhood cancer research, focusing on advancing other key issues which include drug development for children with cancer.

“Peter’s experience will help us build productive partnerships with childhood cancer organizations and other appropriate groups on Capitol Hill,” said Kathleen Ruddy, chief executive officer of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. “He will work with Lisa Parks, our senior director of advocacy, to help those on the Hill better understand the needs of children with cancer, a critically underserved population with growing and significant long-term health problems.”

Mayberry earned a bachelor’s degree in government from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va. He joined the international accounting firm of Price Waterhouse (now PriceWaterhouseCoopers) where he served in the firm’s four-person Office of Washington Liaison and held multiple legislative and regulatory responsibilities. After leaving Price Waterhouse, Mayberry spent 10 years working in law firm environments as a legislative and regulatory specialist on healthcare issues including Medicare/Medicaid reimbursement, pharmaceutical development and distribution, medical device law and pharmacy practice.

Since 1999, Mayberry has served as founder and president of Mayberry & Associates, a government relations and management consulting firm, and has developed and executed legislative and regulatory affairs programs on behalf of his clients.

“I am honored to join the St. Baldrick’s team and support the Foundation’s advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C.,” shares Mayberry. “Having spent most of my career in the trade association arena, I look forward to bringing my knowledge and experience to the St. Baldrick’s cause and helping the Foundation maximize its opportunities within the U.S. Congress and the relevant regulatory agencies.”

Mayberry also has a master’s degree in legislative affairs from George Washington University and a legal studies/paralegal certification from Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Education.
