Childhood Cancer Research Grant Given in Honor of Vacaville Child

VACAVILLE, Calif. (August 26, 2015) – The St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-powered and donor-centered charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, is proud to announce that a St. Baldrick’s Hero Fund created in honor of Amanda Rozman, from Vacaville, Calif., will support lifesaving childhood cancer research. Since 2014, Amanda’s Hero Fund has raised more than $110,000.

The Amanda Rozman Pediatric Cancer Research Fund was created by Michelle and Ron Rozman in memory of their daughter, Amanda, who was diagnosed with stage IV high-risk neuroblastoma at 16 months old. After initial chemotherapy, surgery, stem cell transplant and radiation treatments, Amanda went into remission for two years, but relapsed in August 2013. She endured numerous treatments following her relapse but nothing was effective against her rapidly progressing cancer.

Amanda was a very happy, affectionate girl who could light up a room with her charming personality. Her family is now dedicating their time to raising money to fund promising new treatments and clinical trials in the area of translational research.

This year, the Amanda Rozman Pediatric Cancer Research Fund helped to fund a St. Baldrick’s International Scholar grant that was awarded to Haiwei Lian, M.D., at Boston University. With this funding, Dr. Lian and his team hope to determine the effect of a potent drug on treating aggressive neuroblastoma, in hopes of helping kids, like Amanda, battling this aggressive cancer.

“We are very pleased that money we raised for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation will fund Dr. Lian’s research on MYCN-driven neuroblastoma,” said Michelle and Ron Rozman. “This research has promise to help children like our daughter Amanda who also have this mutation, which makes their cancer more aggressive. We hope that Dr. Lian’s research will find a successful treatment for this devastating disease. It would be a lasting tribute to Amanda’s memory.”
