In 2009, my son Joey was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis at 6 months old. Over the next 3 years, Joey would go through 11 different chemotherapy drugs, most of them designed for adults. He would have a bone marrow transplant. I watched his hair fall out several times. I heard remission, which was soon replaced with relapse 6 times!
Ultimately, my son won his fight. He is a survivor. It has been 5 years since we were told he was "sick". We were told to go home on hospice twice, and refused twice. We learned that every school day in America, 46 children are diagnosed with cancer and 7 die. We learned there has only been 1 new pediatric cancer drug in over 20 years. We learned these kids get so little funding from other resources, that their cure is too far away to help them now.
I'm shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! Did you know that kids' cancers are different from adult cancers? It's true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures. Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
