I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: New Lenox Police

Hi Everyone, my name is Melanie Nelson, when I was 5yrs old I was told I had cancer. I had 2 surgeries and went through chemo treatments. I was very sick, spent a lot of time in the hospital, missed lots of school, and lost my hair. All of my check ups have been good and I’m coming up on 5yrs of being cancer free! A lot of my friends from the hospital are not so lucky, some of my friends are still trying to beat cancer and be able to live a normal life. Some of my friends lost their fight. That makes me so sad. Every year thousands of people including my dad and brother shave their heads to raise money to fight childhood cancer. I have donated my hair to locks of love twice. This year I will be shaving my head to raise money for all the kids that are still sick. My dad is afraid it will bring back bad memories of when I was sick. I told him it’s ok because I’ll just be bald but won’t be sick. My dad said to set my goal high, so I hope you can help me reach my goal of $2000. You can donate online or help out anyway you can. Thank You! Melanie Nelson
