Thank you for taking the time to visit my page. Last year was the first year I participated in a St. Baldrick's event and I really didn't know what to expect when I signed up. I've kept a pretty short haircut since I was 15 so shaving my head didn't really seem like anything special. I wasn't even sure if I could raise the 50 dollars required to qualify for a t-shirt but I set a goal of 200 dollars and was blown away by the amount of donations I received. In all, I ended up raising over 500 dollars and felt so humbled by all of those who donated. I was glad that I could make a small contribution to help out in the fight against cancer.
The actual event was pretty amazing. Just seeing the number of men, women, and children who turned out to be a shaver, a shavee, or just to show support for a friend was inspiring. I was particularly impressed by the girl who stood in line 2 spots in front of me. She couldn't have been more than 8 or 9 years old and had dirty blond hair that went halfway down her back. They asked her if she was shaving her head for her brother or sister or another family member. She said no... she just didn't like cancer. I thought to myself, if a 9 year old girl can shave her head to fight cancer, I really don't have any excuse not to do this.
So once again this year, I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. I'm going all out this year and have not had a haircut since early December. It doesn't feel like its getting that long, although my wife says I look like a porcupine when I wake up in the mornings. Hopefully by the time April 13th rolls around, I'll have a full head of hair so that all of those who donate will get their money's worth.
Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you! Thank you again,
Greg
