I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research

When Matt was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia my whole world felt as if it was collapsing around me. I was scared to death. I had a million questions, most of them I was petrified to ask. My biggest scariest question I wanted to ask but did not want to hear the answer to was never asked. Instead I asked about prognosis. The answer made me realize that not all kids had positive outlooks. Matt got lucky, he has the "better of the types of Leukemias." Not every child has the good amounts of survival rates my son had. As treatment went on I have met families. parents, siblings, and warriors who know the journey of pediatric cancer. Some are doing awesome, and some have earned angel wings, and there are a large amount of kiddos that are in between these two end results. I understand that just because my child is in remission now, does not mean he won't relapse, there are no guarantees yet. I also know that the very chemotherapies we give to our children to save their lives can cause other long term damage to their bodies and in some cases death. Don't our children deserve better than that? Don't children deserve to live with out the fear of death, serious illness, complications, several surgeries, IV's accesses, hair loss, loss of childhood, loss of normal, and missing school? It may seem like perhaps we are fighting a horrible battle and there is nothing we can do. BUT THERE IS! We can help fund research. New ideas, new breakthroughs happen every day! Excellent doctors are on the edge of figuring things out. We know a doctor personally who is absolutely amazing and we love to hear about his research. He is one of Matt's oncologists, and he is amazing. He wants to help kids. He wants to make them better. I want to help him. I will shave and raise money and awareness. I will do this for Matt, and for every child who has touched my life and every parent who has touched my life along this journey. I know our kids deserve better. I take the stand to shave my head for our children.

I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures.

Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government.

Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you!
