Did you know that each year, approximately 160,000 kids are diagnosed with cancer, and of those, 1 in every 5 cases is terminal? Every year, thousands of brave men, women, and children have joined the St. Baldrick’s Foundation (www.stbaldricks.org) by giving up their locks to support childhood cancer research. This year, I’ve decided to make a “bald” statement in an effort to raise funds and help fight the number one disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. Yes, I’m getting my head shaved not only to stand in solidarity with kids battling cancer, but also to raise money for this worthy foundation. I’m hoping for your support to help me reach and exceed my fundraising goal before the head-shaving event that will take place on March 1.
Honestly, I’m doing this for a number of reasons, but the predominant one is that my father battled cancer for years before succumbing to it, and I saw the toll it took on my father and our family. I’m sure many of you have similar stories. After having lived through that experience, I cannot imagine a child having to endure the chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and battling the illness at such young ages. If I can even raise one extra dollar to go toward the research needed to find cures for this disease, I am all in. And I hope that you are too.
