I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Team Difference

I've answered the call to be a hero! I'm having my head shaved to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer, but more importantly, to raise money to find cures. Please support me with a donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. This volunteer-driven charity funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U. S. government. Your gift will give hope to infants, children, teens and young adults fighting childhood cancers. So when I ask for your support, I'm really asking you to support these kids. Thank you! Click "Make a donation" to give online, or donate by phone or mail. ^ Well that was the initial little blurb they had written already, but I did want to personalize my message a bit. I remember having a conversation with my friends last year. We were talking about how cool St. Baldrick's was and how I really thought of doing it or at least being part of it in some way. But then the topic of Prom got brought up as well and everyone agreed they wouldn’t want to be bald for Prom. Even myself. That thought seemed to stay in my head, and the more I thought, the more I realized. Some kids my age don't get to have the decision to "be bald for prom" they may not even have the chance to GO to prom. And honestly, that broke my heart. And I wanted to show that there are people out there who will support them. I don't know any kid personally who has cancer and, until a couple months ago when I decided to do St.Baldricks, had never had anyone close to me or even in my family have cancer. I made the decision at the beginning of junior year that I would do shave my head, but I couldn’t decide if I would be a shavee this year or next. Well, tragedy struck in my family unexpectedly when we found out my aunt, a huge role model in my life, had pancreatic cancer. It completely caught me and my family off guard. She is only in her 50's and it's terrible that cancer has the ability to take away people's lives WAY before it should have been taken. Especially for these kids. It may be too late for my Aunt who has been given a couple weeks left to live and is no longer on chemo, but that doesn't mean I will give up. I want to make a difference. And I will try, to the best of my ability, to make my aunt proud and to at the very least help to find a cure. Stay Strong to those who are both suffering through cancer themselves AND the loved ones of that person suffering.
