I shaved to raise money for childhood cancer research with: Yonkers PBA

Did you ever think a haircut could save someone’s life? As we continue the battle against childhood cancer, I would invite you to experience first-hand how the St. Baldrick’s Foundation is making a difference. I’m shaving my head in solidarity with children who typically lose their hair during treatment, and invite YOU to join me in making a “bald” at Fogartys today. While not an easy thing to do, it’s important these children understand they’re not alone in their efforts. Together, our message will be more profound and the task before us easier to accomplish. Worldwide, 175,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year and despite tremendous progress, cancer remains the number one disease killer of children in the U.S. and Canada. One of the ways St. Baldrick's raises funds for childhood cancer research is by hosting head-shaving events worldwide, where volunteers shave their heads and receive pledges of financial support from their friends and family. Their generous donations help fund life-saving pediatric cancer research. These events have raised approximately $150 million, providing research grants to doctors and scientists at more than 200 institutions to pursue the most promising new cures for childhood cancer, in addition to making clinical trials available to more children than ever. Since 2000, St. Baldrick’s has hosted more than 5,500 head-shaving events, shaving nearly 244,000 heads in 30 countries and 50 U.S. states.
