First, the not-personal: Participants in a St. Baldrick's event shave their heads in exchange for donations towards research. Efforts fund research & bald heads are a display of solidarity with kids who have cancer. St. Baldrick's funds more childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. Government.
And now, the personal: my 5 year old daughter (Marenna C.) is a two-time cancer survivor. She was diagnosed with Wilms' tumor, on both kidneys, when she was 7 months old. She had surgery and chemotherapy and got all better. Then right before she turned 3, it was back. She went through surgery again, plus radiation...
