As some of you know, I have a ten-year-old cousin who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (cancer of the bone) in late 2008. After nearly a year of treatment, and a crazy surgery to replace his knee where the tumor grew, he's doing great! However, unfortunately, one out of every five children diagnosed with cancer will NOT be as lucky as my cousin - they will NOT survive.

Now, before you get ahead of yourself, let me note that I am NOT shaving my head this year. (That's not to say I never will at some point, but just not this year.) However, I am volunteering my time outside of work at several of our head-shaving events. In doing so, I wanted to set up my own fundraising page as an opportunity to support the cause that has been my life for the last three plus years.

I truly believe, as does the St. Baldrick's Foundation, that funding research is a child's best chance for a cure. If you know someone who has been touched by cancer, you understand the devastations of treatment; even if they are "cured" often times, long-term side effects occur. If you have healthy kids to kiss at night, have been lucky enough to escape the grasp of cancer, or know this monster first-hand, I ask that you donate $5 to the cause, in honor of the one in five who won't survive.
