In the spring of 2003 while here in the Texas Rio Grande Valley we got a call from our son David. He said Dad, Mom "I have lung cancer, can you come" We spent the big part of the next two years in our RV parked at his house on the banks of the Matiponi River near Richmond, VA. We helped baby sit their year old adopted daughter, Faith and helped where we could as he went through chemo and radiation. He and his wife Karen were so excited because they had only recently gone to China to finalize the adoption of Faith and bring her home.

Yes he lost his hair but after the first treatment he was in remission when they had a St Baldricks event in Richmond. VA and he had his head shaved.
Then the cancer came back. We had planned a family vacation at Glacier National Park and though he was not feeling all that good we did make it. We celebrated his 40th birthday and our 50th wedding anniversary there in August of 2004.
He lost his valiant battle with cancer on June 15, 2005.
Then Pat was diagnosed with colon cancer in the summer of 2006 and under went an operation and suffered through chemo. Thankfully it was caught in time and she is doing well as are a brother and two sisters who are cancer survivors. I know very few families have escaped the ravages of cancer.
Pat and I wanted to do something to fight back and we organized the first St Baldricks Head Shaving event in the Texas Rio Grande Valley last year. It was held on February 22, 2009 and was a fun yet an emotional event. Take a look at the pictures on my web page and elsewhere on the event site of some of the 20 shavees who helped raise $29,000 to find a cure for cancer.
We need your help to make the event on March 7, 2010 even bigger and better. Please donate what you can to support us. No amount is too small.
