“To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.” -- Ralph Waldo Emerson
St. Baldrick’s 2014 – Escape from Alcatraz and Boston Head Shaving Events
On May 8th, 2013 the Notre Dame community received tragic news. One of the strongest individuals to step foot on the gridiron in South Bend had lost his battle with cancer. If you had the pleasure of meeting Asaph Schwapp (Ace) you would have left the conversation with two thoughts. The first - how can a human being have biceps the size of watermelons, and the second, how can a human being with biceps the size of watermelons be so caring for everyone he came in contact with (as long as they weren’t wearing a helmet…). My teammates and I were devastated the day we heard the news of Ace’s passing.
That day I vowed to do something to honor Ace. After racking my brain for months, I decided to leverage the momentum I had built with St. Baldrick’s to do something special in his memory. I reached out to my teammates and classmates with the hope of garnering additional support. This year we will be celebrating our 4th St. Baldrick’s Event in Boston (Adding to the $150,000 we've raised over the past 3 years) and a group of 7 of us will race the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon in memory of Ace.
We set a difficult goal for our Escape from Alcatraz team this year: Raise $44k for ‪#‎44A‬. We’d greatly appreciate any support you can provide to help us reach this goal.
My personal goal this year is to raise $15k. My donation page can be found on the link below. Thank you for considering a donation and for all the support you've provided me at different points throughout my life. I wouldn't be here without you all.
If you know of any companies that would be interested in being a corporate donor for our triathlon team or Boston head shaving event, please reach out to me directly. We’re creating custom jerseys for the triathlon and will be placing sponsors logos on them.
Our Boston event is quickly approaching on April 12th at Dillon's, followed by our 55 degree plunge just off the footsteps of Alcatraz Island on June 1st (Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon). Please shoot me an email if you can make it out for either of these events. I look forward to hearing from you!
