Shave your head on St. Patrick’s Day to help Conquer Kids’ Cancer
LOS ANGELES (March 10, 2010) – With St. Patrick’s Day just one week away, the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research, is encouraging people to proudly brave a shave and say, “show me the clippers!” This St. Patrick’s Day, thousands of men and women worldwide will proudly get bald for St. Baldrick’s to help save the lives of children with cancer. This year’s holiday also marks the 10th anniversary of St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events, with the first event taking place on March 17, 2000 in New York City.
At St. Baldrick’s events, volunteer ‘shavees’ shave their heads to raise money and stand in solidarity with kids who typically lose their hair during cancer treatments. Since the first head-shaving event in 2000, St. Baldrick’s has contributed more than $50.5 million dollars to pediatric cancer research – funding more in these research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. With more than 115 St. Baldrick’s head-shaving events taking place on St. Patrick’s Day alone, and more than 675 throughout March, it’s sure to be a hair-raising experience.
St. Patrick’s Day is just the beginning of the excitement – hundreds of events are still in the works and thousands of heads will face the clippers throughout 2010.
