My Story

Michelle was 16 years old when we found out the pain in her leg was a cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. Michelle loved cheer-leading, dancing, shopping and hanging with her friends. She underwent 9 rounds of chemo, 6 weeks of radiation, and a stem cell replacement. Michelle’s cancer was in remission for almost 7 months and on Aug. 4th 2008, a routine CT scan showed a spot on her rib. She went through 25 more radiation treatments, 7 more rounds of chemo, 2 lung resections to remove the cancer to find out 2 weeks later the cancer was back and resistant to treatment. Chemo would only help to stabilize the cancer, so two more rounds of chemo and then a clinical trial in August in hopes of a miracle. The cancer was too aggressive and had out smarted all the drugs the new trial medication didn't work. Hospice was called in on Sept. 25th, she celebrated her 19th Birthday on the Sept. 28th, and then help make her own funeral arrangements. She passed away on October 19, 2009. She never gave up living her life and her courage and strength touched many lives, we were overwhelmed by the love and support we have received from everyone before, during and after her passing. Heaven has yet another Angel! More on Michelle can be found on Facebook Groups/Common Interest-Friends In Loving Memory of Michelle Irene DeCarlo Until there is a cure! 10/28/09
