My Story

Jacob was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) at the end of his first week in kindergarten at age five. Since that day, Jacob has been in and out of Nationwide Children’s hospital starting with spinal tap surgeries, bone marrow biopsies and continuing with steroids, many medications and various chemotherapy treatments. He has had blood platelet transfusions and a particularly scary episode of VOD. Jacob returned to school for the first time in March and in May started the maintenance phase of his treatment. Currently his absolute neutrophil count has been too low, prohibiting him from receiving his maintenance chemotherapy treatment. When Jacob is feeling well he loves playing t-ball and playing in the backyard with his brothers. Jacob wants to be a firefighter when he grows up. In the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease — more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined. And yet, all types of childhood cancers combined receive only 4% of the U.S. federal funding for cancer research. St. Baldrick's exists to change these realities. Please consider donating to the St. Baldrick's Foundation today to help Jacob and all kids with childhood cancers.
