My Story

Six-year-old Alex is a sweet, fun little boy who loves soccer, Avatar, Star Wars, Batman and especially Sponge Bob! While preparing for Christmas he began having headaches and nausea, and just a few short weeks before Christmas he was diagnosed with Medullobastoma (a rare cancer that affects the brain and spinal fluid). Just 2 days after celebrating Christmas with his Mom, Dad and twin 2 1/2 year old siblings, he was back in the hospital to have a Spinal Tap and to have his Chemotherapy Port put in place. Because the spinal tap showed Medullobastoma cells in the spinal fluid, Alex is in a higher risk category requiring a more aggressive treatment that includes 6 weeks of daily radiation and chemotherapy followed by 9-12 months of chemotherapy. Sure it changes the odds of successfully defeating this cancer but as Han Solo said when C3PO told him “the odds of successfully navigating and asteroid field are 3728 to one “, Han fired back with “never tell me the odds”. The odds are more in Alex's favor than Han's, but it is going to be a more difficult fight for sure.
