My Story

When Alec was diagnosed with ALL Leukemia in fifth grade, we didn't dare dream that he would one day get his drivers license, graduate high-school, have a girlfriend, go to college, etc. It was too scary to think of even the next day or next week. Would his body respond to chemo? Would he make it? We couldn't bare to imagine the worst, so we kept praying and hoping.

Today, Alec is cancer free and in his freshman year at UC Davis in the Design major. The day has come when we no longer think about cancer every hour of every day. Thanks to the amazing research from St. Baldrick's, scientists are figuring out how to cure childhood cancers, and he is becoming a young adult. Alec was 10 years old in 2010, when he was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia). If you'd like to hear him describe what the first year on treatment was like for him in his own words, watch our youtube video "Alec Speech". In this video, Alec delivers his 5th grade promotion speech after just barely finished a round of treatment at the hospital. All he wanted was to be able to be at that promotion, and it happened! Eight years later, Alec is healthy and happy, and we feel incredibly fortunate. I thank God every day that we have our boy with us. Far too many children lose their battles with cancer. St Baldrick's is funding absolutely life-saving pediatric cancer research, so please support the shaving teams in their efforts to raise further funds! This is not just a feel-good campaign to show support, the shavees actually are able to fund research, which is so desperately needed.

With funding from St Baldrick's, our sincere hope is that some day, no child will have to face cancer.
