My Story

Kaitlyn is one year cancer free due to UNM children's hospital and all the research done in her behalf and all other children with cancer. She had ovarian choriocarcinoma and was diagnosed at stage 2. Kaitlyn wants to be part of giving others hope and courage in the face of cancer. Kaitlyn is nine years old and very mature for her age. She is a tomboy who likes hip hop dancing and learning to play guitar. She loves to read and is interested in fantasy fiction. She is reading the Percy Jackson series right now. Kaitlyn is a very happy person with a lot of energy. I couldn't even keep up with her when she was on chemo. She does not like pity and prides herself on her strengths. She still has to go through procedures and painful shots of Lupron because her cancer affected her growth and hormones. She has a really loud high pitched laugh and people passing by will laugh when they hear her. She is also a comedian with some pretty witty comebacks. She likes to tease her dad and brother and sisters. She is the laughter of my life. I am so grateful for the surgery and research that saved her life. The song that reminds me most of her is Miley Cyrus "The Climb". That song is so much like her. Always believing in herself. Always reaching for the most out of life that she can get. She is my inspiration and teacher in life. She shows me how to live.
