My Story

My name is Amey and I was born on January 12, 2004 in Kostanai, Kazakhstan. My mom and dad traveled to Kazakhstan to adopt me in September 2004. I have two big brothers named Tommy & Matthew who were also born in Kazakhstan. On my 4th birthday I was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. I had to miss my own birthday party. The day before my birthday I had a low grade fever and I was very tired. My mom took me to the doctor to see if I had an ear infection. The doctor said my ears were fine but my liver and spleen were both enlarged so she sent me to the hospital for blood work. The next morning she called and told my mom to take me to the hospital. I spent three weeks in The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and then received outpatient chemotherapy at their King of Prussia clinic. I was a slow early responder. I completed my treatments on May 19, 2010 .
