Yesterday St. Baldrick’s staffers got the chance to welcome some special guests (hint, hint, they included a SuperGirl and a Sons of Anarchy star!) to our headquarters in Monrovia, California, for the first ever shaving event at our offices.
One of our Honored Kids, SuperGirl Jadyn, dropped by St. Baldrick’s HQ on Wednesday to shave with a bunch of her friends: Eric, a TED Talk producer who organized a flash mob for Jadyn, Melissa, who taught her to surf, and actor Kim Coates of Sons of Anarchy, who was our celebrity barber for the day. (He’s also Jadyn’s BFF.)

Jadyn and Kim met at an event where Jadyn spoke about her experience with childhood cancer. They have been attached at the hip ever since, he said.
Eric, Melissa and Kim were all brought together by Jadyn’s incredible story. She is battling an ependymoma brain tumor for the fifth time, after being first diagnosed when she was 5 years old.
True to her SuperGirl status, the 11-year-old showed up wearing three superhero capes — two mini capes on her Wonder Woman socks and a pink one around her shoulders. She is quite a celebrity in Canada and is even known as the “most radiated” girl in the country. “Not the title I was going for,” she quipped.

It was Eric’s second shave within just a few months on Wednesday. Amid shouts of encouragement and applause from the gathered staff, Eric’s hair dropped onto the conference room carpet — with a little help from Jadyn.
Then it was first-time shavee℠ Melissa’s turn to lose her long pony tail. “Awesome, so much lighter!” she said.
St. Baldrick’s staff cheered for Jadyn, Eric, Melissa and Kim.
Last but not least, it was time for SuperGirl to brave the shave for the second time this year.
She requested something special from her BFF barber — her hair shaved into a J. (Kim’s response? “This is so much pressure!” But we all think he did great.)
They came, they saw, they shaved — and they left us totally inspired. Best day at work ever.
