Holiday Memories of Ambassador Alan [PHOTO ESSAY]

by Judy Sanders
December 22, 2014

Diagnosed with a rare type of childhood cancer in his hip, St. Baldrick’s Ambassador Alan passed away in January 2013 at the age of 5, after fighting cancer for most of his life. Alan’s family has many favorite memories of their spirited boy, but a photo shoot with Santa Claus tops the list. His mother, Judy, recalls that special day.

When we brought Alan home from MD Anderson in September 2012, we did not know how long he would have. When we saw that our favorite photographer had a Santa photo session the first weekend of November, we booked it, crossing our fingers that he would be able to make it.

Together we can take childhood back from cancer for kids like Alan and their families — donate to the most promising kids’ cancer research today.

He perked up near the end of September, once we got his medications and infections under control, and had his Make-A-Wish Day that really lifted all of our spirits.

Alan and Kevin had a great time with Santa at their photo session, and we have one of our all-time favorite poses from that day – what we like to call the “Tee Hee” photo.
