46 Mommas Shave for the Brave

September 14, 2011 46 Mommas Shave for the Brave

Thousands of people will see a most unusual sight at Union Station in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 21 – more than “46 Mommas” from across the U.S. will shave together, representing the 46 families every weekday who hear the words, "Your child has cancer." Then, with bald heads, they’ll go where St. Baldrick’s hasn’t ventured before - Capitol Hill.

In 2010, the first 46 Mommas team established a fundraising goal of $1 million for the St. Baldrick's Foundation; to date they have raised more than $502,500. This year, a new group of 46 Mommas will carry on this mission, not only through a head-shaving event, but also with targeted advocacy efforts that will speak to the urgency of childhood cancer support, on a national level.

The public head-shaving event will be emceed by Washington D.C. morning news personality, Angie Goff, and will be attended by members of the childhood cancer community.

The next day, the Mommas will meet with members of Congress to share their personal stories and advocate for childhood cancer issues. On Friday, September, 23, they will attend the Second Annual Childhood Cancer Summit, which is sponsored by the Congressional Childhood Cancer Caucus.
