“Globe University – Madison East Recognized for Outstanding Community Service” │Childhood Cancer

Globe University – Madison East campus recently announced that they have been selected as the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) Honorable Mention winner for the Community Service Recognition Award 2012. The nomination, submitted by St. Baldrick’s volunteer event organizer and medical assistant program chair, Elisha Terre, spotlighted their commitment to give back to the community, focusing on last year’s service learning project, their 2011 St. Baldrick’s signature head-shaving event!

According to a blog posted by Globe University, “This service learning project began as a classroom conversation about patient empathy and grew into a campus-wide effort involving several student clubs and programs. Medical Assistant students created a beautiful scrapbook of cancer patients, survivors, and caretakers including stories and photos. This scrapbook was prominently displayed on the day of the event and some of the cancer patients highlighted in the book attended the event.” The St. Baldrick’s head-shaving event raised more than $8,500 for life-saving childhood cancer research.
