$20 Million

April 7, 2011 $20 Million

After a record-breaking first quarter the St. Baldrick’s community knows it’s only the beginning of a shearly wonderful year. Having said that…we invite you to help us celebrate reaching $20 million to Conquer Kids’ Cancer!

Also helping us celebrate, is long-time company supporter, Towers Watson, a leading global professional services company that helps organizations improve performance through effective people, risk and financial management. Over the last 10 years, Towers Watson employees from Chicago, Hartford, and Philadelphia have participated in local St. Baldrick’s signature head-shaving events and have been instrumental in the growth of the Foundation in both the Chicago and Philadelphia area. Their employees were responsible for bringing St. Baldrick’s to Chicago in 2002, and their enthusiasm is stronger than ever.

“Towers Watson is more than just a Bronze level sponsor of the Foundation” says Kathleen Ruddy, Executive Director of the St. Baldrick’s Foundation. “The commitment of their employees in both in office and community events reflects the best of the American ’can do’ spirit and our collective will to achieve a better life for all around us. While conquering childhood cancer isn’t their day job, the Towers Watson team is determined that kids with cancer will enjoy long and healthy lives.”

Scott Conover, Marketing Director, (pictured, left) has shaved for the past 6 years, with Brad Rybak, Senior Consulting Actuary, (right) not far behind. Wanting to be creative in their fundraising tactics, Brad is responsible for their innovative in office event, featuring their ‘Creative Cuts’ where, for an additional donation, employees will agree to leave the office with the hairstyle of the audience’s choice before finishing their shave in solidarity with kids with cancer.

In Philadelphia, volunteer event organizer, Lisa DeMeio (inducted this year to the Knights of the Bald Table for her seventh year of volunteering) has organized the local community event for years, and following Brad’s lead brought the event ‘in office’ in 2010 where Raj Gulati, another long-time shavee, leads the shaving team. Tom McIntyre heads up the effort in Hartford, this year, including his son TJ in the effort.

The company’s long-time support and dedication to the cause led to Towers Watson becoming the #8 fundraising team in 2010 – and 2011 is looking to be an equally successful year!St. Baldrick’s congratulates Towers Watson on an incredible year and thanks them for their last 10 years service.
