In 2010, St. Baldrick's shavees, volunteers, and donors have raised over $19 million!! That's right, in only 130 days you have helped to raise more than $19 million for childhood cancer research. That is incredible beyond words! At this time last year, St. Baldrick's total was just under $14 million which means that we are more than $5 million ahead! None of this would be possible without the undying support and brave actions of our shavees, donors, and volunteers. You are all true heroes to kids with cancer.
In addition to having raised $19 million, St. Baldrick's also has more than 36,025 shavees-- including 3,575 women and over 11,250 kids. Some of these shavees have already gone bald at the 653 events that have taken place this year; others will be shaving it all off at the 67 events that will take place between now and December. That makes for a total of 720 events in 47 states and 10 countries!! Way to go everyone!
Here to celebrate $19 million raised is 2010 Ambassador Kid Ty who celebrated by going to see his favorite hockey team, the Idaho Steelheads, win a great game! Here he is with Blue, the Steelheads mascot. Ty received a new prosthetic leg a few months ago and has done a great job adjusting to it. His mom, Kim, says that you can't even tell he's wearing it unless he has shorts on. Ty has his nine month post chemo scans on May 24th and the family is planning an exciting trip to the California, the Grand Canyon, North Dakota then back to Idaho in August. Sounds like fun!
To make 2010 our biggest year yet, we still need more than 3,974 shavees, so everyone is encouraged to do their part to support the cause.
