How many 14-year-olds can call themselves knights? Well, Max Perdue of Green Bay, WI can. At only 14-years-old, Max is the youngest member of the St. Baldrick’s Knights of the Bald Table. The Knights of the Bald Table is reserved for shavees who have been shaving their head for seven years or longer. The honor, created in 2009, has fewer than 250 members and is composed of brave men and women who helped shape St. Baldrick’s.
Max started shaving his head back in 2002 when his younger brother, Anthony, was being treated for ALL in Green Bay. They were invited to attend a local event where Max decided that he wanted to shave his head for the first time.
“After seeing the kids in the hospital and then going to the event, I realized that this was something that I could do to help other kids like my brother,” Max said, “It was an awful experience when my brother was sick and I hope that by shaving my head I can help so other kids don’t have to go through that.”
Max has set a fundraising goal of $500 for his shaving on March 13 at Green Bay Preble High School where he is involved in a number of different activities. He is a member of the Student Cancer Group and on both the soccer and bowling teams for school. Despite all of his activities, Max says that participating in St.Baldrick’s is one of his favorite activities every year.
“I just really want to be able to help the other kids and even if that means shaving my head, that’s okay because mine will grow back,” he said. And that certainly is knight-worthy! To donate to Max, follow this link.
