A Negative Becomes A Positive

January 21, 2010 A Negative Becomes A Positive

“You have cancer,” are often the three most devastating words anyone can hear in their lifetime. However, when Rob Lane of Bermuda learned of his own cancer diagnosis on December 26, 2009 he decided these words would become a personal call to action.  Diagnosed after months of tests in Boston, Rob’s final diagnosis was non-Hodgkin’s Follicular Lymphoma, a very treatable yet incurable cancer of the lymphatic system.

He began treatment almost immediately and was told he was going to lose his hair at some point during the month.  As he pondered that reality, Rob decided to turn his own challenge into a public opportunity to help children also battling cancer through St. Baldrick’s.  Due to his treatment schedules, Rob came to the conclusion that he wouldn’t be able to wait for the event in Bermuda in March and so in collaboration with The Pickled Onion he organized a special pre-St. Baldrick’s Day head-shaving event on January 21.

Rob has set a personal fundraising goal of $150,000 and has already raised more than $83,000!  He’s determined to meet his fundraising goal no matter how long it takes him. Good luck Rob, no doubt your event was a bald-tastic success!
