Shaving your head makes a statement for a few months, but Mindy Barrett has taken a step beyond the clippers to permanently show her support for kids with cancer.
“After I was done shaving, I realized I really wanted to make a statement with my new look and that’s when I decided to get a St. Baldrick’s tattoo,” Mindy said.
Mindy, along with a handful of St. Baldrick’s supporters, decided to permanently show her support for St. Baldrick’s with a tattoo. Some have chosen a shamrock, an image of Lucky, or even a pair of clippers! Mindy chose a full color picture of Superhero Lucky for the tattoo that runs from the crown of her head down to her neck. The head is one of the most painful places to get a tattoo but Mindy says it was well worth it.
“I had always wanted a head tattoo and even though it was pretty painful during the hour and half, I am so glad I got it and I am so glad that I decided to get something that symbolized something as important as St. Baldrick’s,” Mindy said. “I’ve had a lot of fun participating as a shavee for the past couple of years and I will certainly continue to shave as long as I can.”
In 2008, as the team captain of Girls Gone Bad, Mindy raised more than $1,000 for St. Baldrick’s. This year was Mindy’s second year shaving and she raised more than $640 on her own and her team, Main Street Hair Baldies, raised over $1,400! Congratulations to Mindy and her team and thank you for your head-felt dedication to St. Baldrick’s!
