On Friday, March 12 there is sure to be a challenge of epic proportions as McHenry East High School and McHenry West High School both hold their St. Baldrick's events. The campuses are hoping to raise a combined $10,000 for the Foundation by the end of the event. With more than $3,000 raised right now, they are currently well on their way!
This is the second year that the West Campus has participated and it will be the first year for the East Campus. Currently, the schools have 11 shavees registered but many more are expected to jump in on the festivities at the actual events.
Among the shavees are 16 year-old Brody and his 15 year-old cousin Ben. Both boys will be shaving in honor of Brody's mother who has been battling kidney cancer for over eight years.
Mayor Sue Low of McHenry, IL is also scheduled to join in the fun and get bald, along with Police Chief William Brogan and Deputy Chief John Jones. Mayor Low decided to get involved this year after witnessing the dedication from the students last year and in the time leading up to the event this year.
"I need to tell those kids I support what they are doing," Low said.
