On March 11, 2010 in the city where it all began, St. Baldrick's Co-Founder and Board Member, John Bender, rang the opening bell at the NASDAQ Market.
As John presided over the opening bell today, he was joined by local St. Baldrick's volunteers and supporters, as well as children and families directly touched by cancer. Together, they represented the hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and around the world who have helped make St. Baldrick's the head-shaving event for childhood cancer research.
Ten years ago this month, the goal was to raise $17,000 by shaving 17 heads on March 17th. Since then, St. Baldrick's has raised over $75 million for the cause, shaved over 135,000 heads at over 3,000 events held in all 50 states and 25 countries.
As John Bender rang today's opening bell at NASDAQ, hope resounded for all who have joined in the fight against childhood cancer and who, despite a struggling economy, make it possible for St. Baldrick's to continue its mission of Shaving the Way to Conquer Kids' Cancer.
