Back in 2008, Basin Electric’s St. Baldrick’s Day campaign began with a desire to do good. Well, that desire grew. It grew … and it grew … and it grew. It grew to more than 300 volunteers willing to lose their hair and more than $238,000 raised since that inaugural event.
Back in January, Basin Electric, located in Bismarck, ND, learned that they were being recognized for its St. Baldrick’s campaign communications efforts. The cooperative learned it had been selected as a finalist in the Philanthropy Communications category of the PR News’ Corporate Social Responsibility Awards.
Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is one of the key benchmarks of an organization’s overall success and reputation. PR News’ CSR Awards recognize both the communications surrounding a CSR initiative and the initiative itself.
Basin Electric’s St. Baldrick’s initiative was a finalist among globally recognized businesses, such as Aflac, eBay and Hasbro. The philanthropy communications category recognizes an organization with a successful giving program in which the communications of these efforts has improved the standing of the organization in the communities it serves. Past winners include Hard Rock International, Bank of America and Deloitte & Touche.
In recognition of Basin Electric's outstanding achievement in philanthropy communications, the cooperative received an Honorable Mention award at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 24, 2010. Congratulations to Basin Electric on this outstanding achievement and thank you for being heroes to kids with cancer!
This year's Basin Electric event is scheduled for Wednesday, March 17 at 1:30 p.m. at the headquarters boardroom – again trading a St. Patrick’s Day party for a St. Baldrick’s Day head-shaving extravaganza. Tandem events will also be held, and Basin Electric is extending an invitation to anyone and everyone that may be interested in participating in the event.
A build-up event will take place prior to the official St. Baldrick’s event at Basin Electric on March 17.
On March 13, during the Bismarck Bobcat’s home game against the Owatonna Express, members and coaching staff of the team will shave their heads live on center ice. For more information, check out the video below.
