It was a buzz of laughter at a recent St. Baldrick's benefit comedy show at theTexas Trails RV Resort in the small town of Pharr on February 3. The event, co-organized by Wayne Chapman Robert Heiser, featured the dynamic senior comedy duo of "Bernie and Red" The comedic couple, who participated for the second year, not only pitched St. Baldrick's throughout the show but they also advertised the benefit at other shows in the area. The Bernie and Red's Comedy Musical Cancer Benefit was a great lead in for the upcoming Texas Trails head-shaving event on March 7 at the RV resort. Right now, they are more than halfway to their goal of $25,000! The huge success of the last year's event helped to provide a $62,935 grant to the Vannie E. Cook Jr. Children's Cancer and Hematology Clinic in McAllen, TX. This money has allowed for a researcher on staff to ensure that all kids are given the opportunity to be put on a clinical trial, their best hope for a cure. Last year, more than 87% of the 5,000 patients seen by the clinic were uninsured. Getting these children into clinical trials is pertinent for their treatment and chances of long-term survival. Thank you to all the BIG- hearted folks in Pharr, TX for reminding us that everyone can help fight childhood cancer!
Those interested in helping at the event can do so in many ways. Shavees are needed to collect money from family, friends, and co-workers willing to see them hairless. Organizers are also seeking sponsors and items for the silent auction and raffle. To donate to the event, follow this link. Caption: Bernie and Red in their St. Baldrick's finest.
