Barbers

Do barbers receive a registration packet?
We don't have a registration packet for barbers, but if you would like brochures or posters to help you fundraise please contact your local Volunteer Event Organizer or call 888.899.BALD (2253).
What should I bring with me to the event?
Bring a photocopy of your license to give to your Barber Coordinator or Registrar. Also, please bring along clippers, an extension cord, combs, hand mirrors, sanitation supplies and an extra cape.
Does the St. Baldrick's Foundation provide a tax write-off for barbers who volunteer their services?
Yes, we do! Please fill out the In-Kind Donation Form and a letter stating your average hourly pay and St. Baldrick's will issue you a tax receipt for your services.
Are we allowed to use a razor if a shavee requests a clean shave?
Foundation policy prohibits the use of any blade razors at the event. In addition, depilatories, cutting, dyeing or shaving of any animals, and hair dyeing, coloring, bleaching, waxing and threading are strictly prohibited.
Do barbers receive a t-shirt?
All volunteer barbers receive a free t-shirt at the event.
What is the license body and license number and why is it required to register?
The licensing body and license number refer to the institution that issued your barber or cosmetology license and the number on that license. By law, the Foundation needs to ensure that only licensed barbers and cosmetologists are shaving heads at St. Baldrick's events.

Donations

Is the Web site secure to process my credit card donation?
Yes! Our donation and registration forms are secure. To be sure that a website is secure, confirm that the URL includes "https" and look for a padlock symbol on your browser. You'll see both when you're on the St. Baldrick's donation and registration pages.
How can I donate?

ONLINE: Donating online is your best bet! The process is secure and easy, and this is the most cost-effective way for the Foundation to accept gifts. Three things will happen immediately:

  1. Your name will appear as a donor on the event page for the shavee, barber or team you're supporting (unless you mark your gift "anonymous").
  2. Your gift will be added to their total raised. (They'll love you for that!)
  3. You'll receive an email acknowledging your gift.
  4. To make a general donation to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, click here.

BY PHONE: Giving by phone is the next best thing. Call 888.899.BALD (2253) and a representative will take your gift by credit card and post it to the Web site right away.

BY CHECK: You'd rather give by check? No problem! Here are a few things you need to know:

  1. Please make your check payable to "St. Baldrick's Foundation."
  2. Please write the name and ID# of the shavee, barber or team you’re supporting in the memo line of the check, so they'll be sure to get credit for your donation. (The participant's ID# is on their web page and at the top of their donation form.)
  3. # Please complete a donation form (available from your shavee or on their web page) and submit it with your check. This helps us acknowledge your donation properly and get you what you'll need for a tax-deduction. # During the busiest times of the year, it may take longer than we'd like for your gift to reach the website. Please allow at least three weeks to process gifts during the months of February through June.

Do we take cash? We sure do - but not through the mail, please! Just hand your cash donation to the St. Baldrick's participant you're supporting, and they'll submit it. To be sure your name appears on the website of your shavee, please complete a donation form (available from your shavee or from his or her web page). This makes it possible for us to put your name on the website, to thank you, and to provide you with a donation confirmation letter that you can use for a tax deduction.

Where should I send my donation check?
St. Baldrick's Foundation, 1333 Mayflower Ave., Suite 400, Monrovia, CA, 91016
I don't live in the United States. I cannot find the submit button to process my donation. What do I do?
If you are experiencing difficulties donating online, it is just as easy for you to call and make a donation by phone. Call 888.899.BALD (2253) and we'll be happy to help. If you choose to make the donation online, please make sure you're filling out all of the fields that are required, preview your donation information and submit it.
Did my donation go through?
Shortly after submitting your credit card donation, you should receive a confirmation e-mail. If you do not receive an e-mail within 24 hours, please call 888.899.BALD (2253) and we'll confirm or re-process your online donation.
My shavee's event is already over, can I still donate to them?
Yes! You can still donate to a shavee, barber or volunteer even after an event.
I made one donation but I meant to split it up amongst multiple shavees, can you fix that for me?
Please call 888.899.BALD (2253) and explain the request. You'll be transferred to a St. Baldrick's staff member who can adjust the donation amounts and distribute them to various shavees.
When will my donations be acknowledged?
Each online donation will immediately receive a confirmation message by email (so be sure to enter a valid email address) which can be printed for the donors' records. This greatly reduces postage and printing costs, especially since many donors make multiple gifts over time. If you have a question about a gift acknowledgement, contact us or call 888.899.BALD (2253).
I'm a shavee with donors outside the U.S., What should we do?
If you have just one or two donors who reside in another country, please encourage them to give online with a credit card. Their donation will be processed right away, their name will appear on your web page immediately, they'll get a quick gift acknowledgement by email, and the Foundation will avoid the banking and currency conversion fees that apply to foreign checks, which can be prohibitive. If their credit or debit card company charges a foreign transaction fee, it will be added to their transaction. If you have several donors in another country, please consider collecting their gifts and wiring the total funds, or making one credit card gift to cover them all. To learn more about wiring funds, please contact us.
What is a Matching Gift?
Your donation can go twice as far (or more!) if your company has a matching gift program. Please request a matching gift form from your employer (often the Human Resources department) and submit it with your gift, or mail it to the foundation after making your online gift. If your employer does not have a matching gift program but makes charitable donations, why not ask them to match your donation – or, if you're a shavee, the amount you raise!
My company will match my gift. Where do I send my matching gift form?
St. Baldrick's Foundation, 1333 Mayflower Ave., Suite 400, Monrovia, CA, 91016
Can you move my donation from the general fund to a particular shavee? Can you move my donation from a team to a team member?
Yes, we can! Please call 888.899.BALD (2253) and a member of our team will be happy to move your donation to the appropriate event or participant.
Why hasn't my check been cashed yet?
Donations made by check will post on the website approximately two weeks after we receive them in the mail. Cash donations may take 3 to 4 weeks to be processed and posted online. Please be patient – were processing millions of (US) dollars in just a few short months and we want to get it right! If you know you’ve sent your proceeds and too much time has passed, contact us or call 888.899.BALD (2253).

Fundraising

How do I view my fundraising report?
Sign in to the Members Area with your username and password. In the Donations section you'll see an option to "See who's donated to my cause."
Organizer: Why can't I see the contact information for all of the donors who gave to the event?
Organizers will have access to the information of donors who gave to the event. Shavees will have access to the contact information of donors who gave specifically to their individual fundraising campaign.
How long does it take for all of my event's proceeds to be posted on the event page after the event?
Donations made by check will post on the event site approximately two weeks after receiving the proceeds from the organizer or treasurers. Cash donations will take 3 to 4 weeks to be processed and posted on the event site. Please be patient, were processing millions of (US) dollars in just a few short months and we want to get it right! If you know you've sent your proceeds and too much time has passed, contact us or call 888.899.BALD (2253).
Are shavees required to raise a minimum amount in donations?
No, everyone is welcome to be involved and simply raise as much as they can. While the event is a lot of fun, we ask everyone to remember the main purpose of the event - to fund research to find cures for kids with cancer. You'll be surprised how many people will donate to see you get bald - and how generous they will be once you tell them what it's for. Shavees who raise at least $50 will be given a St. Baldrick's t-shirt at the event. All shavees will receive an exclusive shavee lapel pin.
I'm a St. Baldrick's participant collecting donations. What do I do with them?
Thanks for asking! When these guidelines are followed, it ensures that less money goes toward processing donations, and more can go to the cause:
  • Please submit a donation form for each gift. If you print the form from your web page, your name and ID# will already be filled in for you. You can give this form to your donors or fill it out for them. (This is the only donation form – please don’t create your own form or use a form from a previous year!) The donation form helps automate gift processing procedures, saving a great deal of time and money, and making gift acknowledgements (including tax deduction documentation) more accurate.
  • Please do not mail cash to the Foundation. To get your cash donations and donor names on your web page right away, you may enter these donations online and pay for them with your own credit card (then reimburse yourself with the cash) – but please use the form provided in the Members Area so the gift will be processed correctly. If you prefer to write a check to cover cash donations, paperclip your check to the donation forms for the gifts and mail it to the foundation. This is the only way we will know how to correctly credit your donors for their generous gifts.
  • Until the week prior to your event, please mail donation checks (with their donation forms!) directly to the foundation as you receive them for quicker processing. Please ensure your name and ID# are on the memo line of the check.
  • Closer to the time of your event, put your collected donations in the white and brown shavee envelopes found in your shavee packet. Checks and their forms go in the white envelope; cash and their forms go in the brown envelope. Please complete the basic information on the shavee envelopes and bring them to the event to turn in to the treasurer. These systems help the Foundation process and recognize your gifts more quickly and accurately.
  • # Collecting more donations at the event? Great! Just hand them to your event treasurer to add to your shavee envelopes if you've already turned them in. # Still getting donations after the event? Terrific! Keep up the good work! Please mail donations and their donation forms to the St. Baldrick's Foundation as quickly as possible and submit cash donations using the instructions above.
I'm a shavee and I entered my cash donations online, but I don't see them on my web page.
The cash donation function can be a little confusing, even if you do understand what it is for! You keep the cash that you collected and give that amount as a credit card payment. Basically, it is the exact same thing that you would do when you make a regular donation online; the difference is that this function enables you to enter more than one donation at a time so that you don't have multiple charges on your credit card. Following are some step-by-step instructions to use when entering your cash donations. If you still have some trouble with this, we'll be happy to walk you through it over the phone. Just call 888.899.BALD (2253).
  1. Sign in to the Members Area with your username and password and then click on Submit Cash Donations.
  2. After selecting Add New Cash Donations, fill out the cash donations form entering the information for each individual gift. Remember, you are making this donation on behalf of someone else, so put their name and address in these fields, rather than your own. This way they will be sure to get proper credit and a tax receipt. These are NOT the fields that you use to enter the name and address for your credit card. Once you have filled out this information, click on Save & Add Another to add another donation gift to the form.
  3. When you have entered all of the donor and gift information, click on Save & Finished. You will be directed to a page where you can view the donation information you entered. When you're ready to proceed select the Process the Donations with Your Credit Card button and submit your credit card information.
  4. Congratulations! You have submitted your cash donations.

Organizing An Event

There isn't an event in my area. How can I organize one?
What a great question! Just click on Organize an Event to sign up, or call 888-899-BALD (2253) to find out everything you need to know. Once you've registered your event a St. Baldrick's staff member will contact you before the event appears live on the website. You'll be assigned an event "coach" to help you from start to finish. Basic ingredients for success: 1) a great event location, 2) a date and time that works for shavees and donors, 3) a few good volunteers willing to help, 4) a salon or licensed hairdresser willing to have some fun, and 5) at least a few people with hair who are willing to lose it for a good cause! Oh and a sense of humor really helps!
Why aren't my volunteers showing up?
Volunteer Event Organizers are responsible for activating volunteer profiles. You can approve volunteers by signing in to the Members Area and clicking on Manage Participants in the Organizer Tools section. Here, you can change volunteers' status from pending to approved, give them the ability to have a volunteer fundraising page and allow them access to different website privileges such as uploading photos, managing volunteers and downloading event planning materials.
What do I do if the venue won't sign the venue agreement?
Contact your event coach as soon as possible, and in the meantime begin looking for alternate venues.
Why does it matter if there are other events close to mine?
Volunteer Event Organizers in the same area can work together to gain media support and promote each other's events.
Can I use money donated at an event to help pay for a venue?
Any donations collected by shavees must be returned to the foundation to support childhood cancer research. However, if you would like to cover expenses for a venue, you are welcome to raise funds by doing things like selling food or holding a raffle. If you choose to do this, there must be signs that clearly indicate that the proceeds from these fundraisers are going toward defraying the cost of the venue, and not to the foundation.
Do I have to be 18 to organize an event?
No, you do not. However, if you are under the age of 18, there must be a co-organizer working with you who is above the age of 18.
Why do I have to have a background check to be an organizer or a treasurer?
In order to protect the donors and the children who are honored at our events, we require background checks for organizers and treasurers. This screening includes a Criminal Background Check, as well as the National Sex Offender registry. You will enter your information (instructions will be e-mailed after we receive your completed application) and at no time will the foundation be in possession of your social security number. The background check is an online process that takes no longer than 10 minutes and does not incur a cost to you or your volunteers.
How do I get corporate sponsors for my event? Do they need to be approved by you first?
We encourage Volunteer Event Organizers to seek out corporate sponsors for their events. Sign in to the Members Area with your username and password and select the Looking for Downloadable Resources and Documents button. Documents for tips on attaining community, national or worldwide sponsorships are available. Please feel free to contact your event coach for more information.
As a VEO, what are my responsibilities?
Essentially your tasks are to get the venue, confirm a time and date, recruit shavees, volunteers, and barbers and then spread the word. We will provide you with event and media coaching, promotional supplies, use of the website and supplies to use for the day of the event.
How do I change my event date?
Please contact your event coach.
I have leftover event supplies. What should I do with them?
Please return all leftover lapel pins and shavee envelopes to the foundation with your event proceeds package. If you have leftover t- shirts, hats, sunglasses or wristbands please feel free to give them to your event's host venue for their employees, donate them to your local hospital or to your local fire house or police station. Please give any leftover capes to your volunteer barbers.
How many barbers should I recruit?
It is recommended that you recruit one barber for every 10 shavees.
May I request promotional and event supplies?
Please get in contact with your event coach to request additional promotional and day-of-event supplies.
Can we make our own St. Baldrick's paraphernalia to sell at the event?
Yes, you are welcome to create your own marketing materials; however, please see the Branding Guidelines included in your Event Organizer Guide for procedures on using St. Baldrick's trademarked and copyrighted images. Then send a draft of the artwork to your event coach for approval before going to print. Please allow at least 24 hours for St. Baldrick's to review the artwork for approval.
Will someone from St. Baldrick's be at my event?
While we would love to attend every St. Baldrick's event to meet every shavee, barber and volunteer, it is unfortunately not possible. Thank you to every Volunteer Event Organizer and participant for being the face of the organization across the world!
How do I honor a child that doesn't have a profile on the website?
The child must first be registered through the St. Baldrick's website. Any friend of the child or a legal guardian can register the child by selecting Share Your Childhood Cancer Story, but before the child's profile is made active, the St. Baldrick's Foundation will need to receive a signed Honored Kids Agreement from the child's legal guardian. Instructions on how to download and submit the agreement will be sent in a registration confirmation email. Once the child's page has been activated, you can then honor the child through your event, team or shavee page. Please note that only the Volunteer Event Organizer, the team captain or an individual shavee can connect a child to the respective pages.

Honored Kids

My child is already registered online from a previous year. Do I need to reregister him/her?
No. Each honored kids page is carried over from year-to-year. To make any updates to an existing profile, simply sign in to the Members Area and select the child's name under My Kids. Make sure you click on the Share button at the bottom of the page when you're finished!
I'm getting emails from St. Baldrick's participants regarding my honored child, is this OK?
Yes. At the time of registration, you have the option to choose whether or not you would like to receive emails from people participating in your child's honor. Emails are sent from our secured website and your information is not shared. You can change your status at any time by signing in to your Member's Area and updating your Edit Preferences.
I am a participant wanting to honor a child, how do I go about doing that?
Sign in to the Members Area with your username and password. In the area titled The Kids click on I'm Honoring and select a child to shave in honor of.
Does the money raised from the event go to the honored child?
The money raised does not go to the honored child directly. Grant funds are distributed to institutions for laboratory research and to help make clinical trials available to more children than ever, giving children treatment that offers the best chance for a cure. Fellows and Scholars are funded to encourage the best and brightest doctors to pursue careers in childhood cancer research. Your support truly makes a difference!

The website will walk you through the process, and you'll be on your way to a great and rewarding experience. If you'd rather sign up by phone, just call 888.899.BALD (2253). One more thing: Don't put it off! Be sure to sign up in time to receive a package from us in the mail. You'll be glad you did!
I'm a shavee or barber. How do I get my photo on the website?
Once you register as a St. Baldrick's participant, you will have access to the Members Area where you can post your photo.
Do I have to shave my head? Can't I just cut my hair?
The bald heads of St. Baldrick's shavees are a bold and powerful symbol of support for kids who lose their hair during cancer treatment. Every shavee registered on the Foundation's website plans to go bald for the cause. Shaving one's head is not a sacrifice everyone is willing or able to make - and we certainly understand that! Fortunately, there are many other ways to be involved in St. Baldrick's!
Do I need to be Irish to participate?
You most certainly do not! St. Baldrick's events are often - but not always - held in Irish pubs, and those of us who aren't Irish are welcome to attend and participate! Events are also held at restaurants, schools, malls, festivals and more. People of all walks of life, regardless of heritage or tradition, enjoy participating. In fact, in 2009 St. Baldrick's events were held in eight countries outside of the United States including Hong Kong and Bermuda!
Do I need to know someone with childhood cancer to participate?
No. In fact, we hope no one in your life has had to face childhood cancer! But as the growth of St. Baldrick's proves, you don't have to be directly affected to care about these special kids and families and to do what you can to help find cures.
How much does it cost to attend a St. Baldrick's head-shaving event?
Attendance at St. Baldrick's events is always free, and nearly all are open to the public. (Private events are marked clearly on the Web site.) Invite anyone brave enough to see you or the event's shavees take it all off! The more, the merrier!
Is there a St. Baldrick's event near me?
St. Baldrick's events are taking place across the United States and around the globe! Click on Find an Event to search for a location near you. Don't see one? During some times of the year, several events are added each day, so please check frequently! Contact us to find out if an event is in the planning stages - or to inquire about organizing an event. If you cannot find an event in your area (or you are unable to make it to your local event), you can still participate in the Virtual Event. When you register for the virtual event you get to set a date for the big shave, start collecting donations from friends, family and coworkers and then get your head shaved at a local salon or the place of your choosing. Friends and family recognize your sacrifice, and you get to be a part of the greater St. Baldrick's family!
How do I join or start a team?
If you haven't yet registered to be a shavee, simply fill out the shavee registration form and you will be provided with the option to join or start a team. If you've already registered, login to the Members Area and click to Edit your Personal Participation. At the top of the Participant Information form next to the Team Name, select Click Here to Join One Now.

St. Baldrick's Information

What is the St. Baldrick's Foundation?
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a volunteer-driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives.
What does the St. Baldrick's Foundation do?
The St. Baldrick's Foundation currently funds more in childhood cancer research grants than any organization except the U.S. government. The Foundation coordinates its signature head-shaving events worldwide, where volunteers get bald to stand in solidarity with kids fighting cancer and raise money to support life-saving childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick's events are the largest volunteer-driven fundraising opportunity benefitting pediatric cancer research.
Where is the St. Baldrick's Foundation's office?
Our offices are located at: St. Baldrick's Foundation, 1333 Mayflower Ave., Suite 400, Monrovia, CA, 91016
Can my local hospital receive the money we raise at our event?
If there's an institution in your area that treats children with cancer, chances are it has received St. Baldrick's funds through a $4.6 million grant awarded to the Children's Oncology Group (COG). There are also other types of funding available for pediatric cancer institutions. Please encourage your local institution to apply for funding from the Foundation. For more information on the St. Baldrick's grant process, please contact us.
Where can we buy t-shirts?
A limited number of t-shirts will be available for sale at events. Please contact your local Volunteer Event Organizer (VEO) for more details. Or shop at the official St. Baldrick's store to show your support for kids with cancer year-round. Browse through apparel for the whole family, office suuplies, stationary and more.
Where does the money go?
Grant funds have been distributed to the over 230 institutions of the Children's Oncology Group (COG) for laboratory research and to help make clinical trials available to more children than ever, giving them treatment that offers the best chance for a cure. In 2010 St. Baldrick's funds also supported 11 St. Baldrick's Fellows, 9 St. Baldrick's Scholars, 5 Supportive Care Research Grants, 14 Research Grants and 25 Infrastructure Grants. Your support truly makes a difference!
What percentage of my money goes to research?
Of every dollar raised, 78% funds research to find a cure, 19% goes to fundraising (website, phones, postage, printing, t-shirts, office space, staff, etc.) and 3% goes to administration (accounting, distributing and monitoring grants, etc.). St. Baldrick's takes its responsibility to be efficient and good stewards of every dollar donated very seriously, and strives to put the most funding possible into the hands of researchers who can cure childhood cancers.
How can I be sure the St. Baldrick's Foundation is a legitimate charity?
The St. Baldrick's Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, IRS identification number 20-1173824. It is also registered in every state that requires charitable organizations to register to raise funds. St. Baldrick's has been named an accredited charity by the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance, and the board and staff of the Foundation are committed to the highest standards of ethics and responsibility to donors and volunteers. To learn more, download the latest annual report here.
How did the St. Baldrick's Foundation get started?
What began as a challenge between three friends on March 17, 2000, has grown into the world's largest volunteer-driven fundraising opportunity benefiting childhood cancer research. The first St. Baldrick's event took place at Jim Brady's Bar and Restaurant in New York City. Over the past 11 years, more than $114 million has been raised to fund the most promising research to fund cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives. The Foundation raised more than $22.2 million in 2010 alone.
What else does the St. Baldrick's Foundation need?
A top priority for the St. Baldrick's Foundation is to keep expenses to an absolute minimum. Donations of goods or services that would otherwise come out of the Foundation's budget are always welcome! For example, office supplies, current model computers, technical equipment, software, premium items like event t-shirts or other giveaway items, or services including publicity, advertising space, printing, technical support, and more can be a big aid in keeping expenses down so more money can go to the cause. Corporate sponsors, who are able to make donations, underwrite expenses or present growth opportunities are very important to the success of the Foundation. To propose a sponsorship or learn more, contact us.
What is your privacy policy?
We take your privacy very seriously and we take measures to protect it through our technical and administrative practices. The St. Baldrick's Foundation does not sell, rent, exchange or otherwise share information about donors, shavees or other participants with any other organization or individual. Is there a real St. Baldrick?
To our knowledge, there's no real St. Baldrick. The name "St. Baldrick's" is a combination of the words "bald" and "St. Patrick's," since the first event was held in 2000 on March 17, which is St. Patrick's Day.
Does the St. Baldrick's Foundation fund stem cell research?
St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds cannot be used for human embryonic stem cell research. This is not a statement on whether or not we think it should be supported; the decision is based on the fact that many of our donors and volunteers – our source of funds – would not be comfortable supporting it. Stem cell transplantations not using human embryonic stem cells - using cord blood or matched donors - are often used in treating childhood cancer patients, and our funds may be used in this non-controversial area of research.
I received a security warning while on the St. Baldrick's website. What does this mean?
The St. Baldrick's website is secure, and if you receive this warning it is likely due to the type of browser you're using (this has been experienced by users of Internet Explorer 6). It basically means that some of the information on the page you're viewing is pulled from a different type of connection than what you are using. This is not something to worry about, as Microsoft eventually dropped this warning from the default list in Internet Explorer 7 because there are so many websites using this type of page. If you would like to disable this warning from your version of Internet Explorer, click here.
What is the review process for grants?
Childhood cancer researchers submit grant proposals to the St. Baldrick's Foundation. These are reviewed and rated by the Foundation's panel of expert scientific advisors and grant reviewers who make funding recommendations to the Foundation's board of directors; the research applications are evaluated according to the highest scientific standards in use today. Final decisions are made by the board. The review process is rigorous and handled with care to ensure that every dollar raised is spent on the research most likely to find cures for kids!
Who receives the grants?
The Foundation provides grants to over 230 institutions for laboratory and clinical research and to help make clinical trials available to more children than ever, giving those children treatment that offers the best chance for a cure and long-term survival. St. Baldrick's also funds Fellows and Scholars, younger professionals who will be the experts of tomorrow. The Foundation awarded more than $14 million in 2010 to fund pediatric oncology researchers in 47 states for the following grant categories: pediatric oncology research grants, career development awards (scholars), fellowships and our twn new grants: supportive care research grants and summer fellowships.

Virtual Shavees

What is the Virtual Event?
If you want to shave your head but are unable to make it to your local event or there isn't an event close to you, don't worry - you can still lose those locks in support of childhood cancer research! All you need to do is sign up for the virtual event. When you register for the virtual event you get to set a date for your big shave, start collecting donations from friends, family and coworkers and get your head shaved at a local salon or the place of your choosing. Friends and family recognize your sacrifice, and you get to be a part of the greater St. Baldrick's family!
How do I select the location, time and date that I will shave my head?
Choose a date, location and time that works best for you, then share that information with your supporters in your shavee web page message. You can edit your message by signing in to the Members Area and clicking on Edit next to the Personal Participation area.

Volunteers

How come I'm not showing up as a volunteer?
Once a volunteer registration is processed, the volunteer is listed as pending until the Volunteer Event Organizer activates the registration. If you are waiting to be approved, please contact your Volunteer Event Organizer and request that your registration be activated.
Can I raise money as a volunteer?
Yes, you can! As a volunteer you can raise funds and also have a participant page on the webite. Ask your Volunteer Event Organizer to grant you a web page. You can ask supporters to make donations online by visiting your participant page, or by collecting checks and cash to be turned in at your event.
My mom buzzes my head, but isn't a barber, can she be the barber for the event?
By law, the Foundation needs to ensure that only barbers or cosmetologists licensed in the event state are shaving heads at St. Baldrick's events.
Why do I have to take a background check to be an organizer or treasurer?
In order to protect the donors and the children who are honored at our events, we require background checks for organizers and treasurers. This screening includes a Criminal Background Check, as well as the National Sex Offender registry. You will enter your information (instructions will be e-mailed after we receive your completed application) and at no time will the Foundation be in possession of your social security number. The background check is an online process that takes no longer than 10 minutes and does not incur a cost to you or your volunteers.
Can babies or toddlers be shaved?
There is not an age limit to join the fun and participate in a St. Baldrick's event, but all participants under the age of 18 are required to turn in a Participant Agreement form signed by their parent or legal guardian.
I registered to be a treasurer and can't locate the Donation Handling Tutorial and Quiz.
Once you have registered as a treasurer, the Volunteer Event Organizer can grant you access to the Donation Handling Tutorial and Donation Handling Quiz which you'll be able to view when you login to the Members Area. If you are waiting to receive access to the tutorial and quiz, please contact your Volunteer Event Organizer to request access.
How can I be involved without shaving my head?
There are many ways you can help!

Organize an event: The Foundation provides all Volunteer Event Organizers with a personal coach and all of the materials necessary to plan a head-shaving event. To find out more about organizing or hosting an event call 888.899.BALD (2253) and ask to speak with a Coach, or contact us.

Volunteer: You can also volunteer to help at an event near you. Each event has a volunteer committee to help promote and manage it. Go to your local event's web page and contact the Volunteer Event Organizer to learn more!

Donate: Don't forget - anyone can donate!

Be a Barber: If you are a licensed barber or cosmetologist, we could sure use your help! If you're interested in volunteering as a barber or organizing a team from your salon to help, please contact your local Volunteer Event Organizer.

Share your childhood cancer story on the web: Many St. Baldrick's participants shave in honor or memory of a special child. If you'd like to register your child as an honoree, he or she will inspire thousands of shavees and volunteers, and tens of thousands of donors. Contact us to learn more.

Share your childhood cancer story at an event: St. Baldrick's events are extra meaningful when a local family touched by childhood cancer can attend and share their story with the people who are there to raise funds for critical research. If you are interested, please contact your local Volunteer Event Organizer or contact us. Speak at an event: Doctors, nurses and others who spend their professional lives in research or treatment for childhood cancer are also St. Baldrick's representatives. Representatives are needed to speak at events about the importance of research. To volunteer, please contact your local Volunteer Event Organizer or contact us.
